Welcome to the First United Methodist
Heritage Room. Our church dates back to 1870 before there
was a Bay City. The church has been located on the block of
land where it is now since 1904.
The Heritage Room plaque was made by
Ronny Seerden and the room where it is located was dedicated
October 19, 1980 after the completion of the book, “110
Years of Methodism” - history of First United
Methodist Church by member Mary Belle McAllister Ingram.
In the Heritage Room is a wealth of
history from a antique wooden filing case which was used to
keep Sunday School records dating back to the 1930s. On the
walls are framed photos of the choir in the 1908 church and
the choir of 1980 in the present sanctuary. The list goes
on with display cases and Barrister Book cases with records
and sketches from 1870 to the present church.
On the wall is a framed document written
in old English script and is one of the most important papers
in our church. It is a copy of the original land grant given
to Emilius Savage. A land grant was given by the Republic
of Texas for service rendered during early times of Texas.
The list goes on and on and as you
visit this room remember those folks who loved this church
and were the inspiration for the room. Visit it often and
give thanks to God for those who had the vision to preserve
our heritage. |
