First
United Methodist Church is very attentive to the ministry
needs of women today. There are a variety of annual women's
events on our calendars, as well as individual events that
enrich the spiritual life of our women. Some of those events
are listed below. For three years we've coordinated Women's
Retreats with a variety of guest speakers. Our retreats are
held at near-by Caney Creek Lodge where an abundance of good
food is served in a beautiful sitting with ponds, gazebos,
peacocks, and porch swings all contribute to a wonderful time
apart.
For four years we've attended the Women
of Faith Conferences in Houston, as well as their nation-wide
conference that was recently held in San Antonio. These excursions
always include round-trip transportation in luxury motor-coaches,
hotel accommodations, meals, and conference tickets. It's
a package-deal that can't be beat!
Women's Bible Study: For two years
our ladies enjoyed Liz Curtis Higgs material from her books,
"Bad Girls of the Bible" and "Really Bad Girls
of the Bible." Most recently our ladies just finished
a "Sisters Bible Study" program, and this group
has future plans to continue study in a yet-to-be-determined
curriculum.
United Methodist Women: We have two circles of ladies who
meet once a month for study, service, and fellowship. Both
groups meet on the first Thursday of each month; our Ruth
Group meets in different homes from 9:30 to 11:30, and our
Lydia Group meets in the Youth Building, with a sack lunch
from 12:00 to 1:00. These ladies are warm and welcoming and
enjoy collective fellowship during their quarterly General
Meetings in Wesley Hall with a covered-dish luncheon and program.
Other Areas of Interest for Women:
Sacred Expressions is our liturgical
dance team led by Annette Isaacson. These ladies gather to
design and practice programs that enhance and compliment our
worship experience on Sunday mornings.
