Christmas Meal Boxes
The church has joined forces the police department, businesses,
various other churches and individuals to house the collection
of food that is used to pack boxes for Christmas meals. Each
box contains a frozen turkey and enough canned goods for an
entire meal. The food is collected, sorted, and packed by
volunteers. A ‘drive-through line’ is created
to direct traffic. In 2002, 454 boxed meals were distributed.
In 2003, 554 boxes were distributed with an estimated value
of between $3,500 -$4,000.
Cookers For Christ
Last year the men of our church prepared their first sit-down
community-wide Thanksgiving meal. The men prepared and served
the meal at the local Service Center and approximately 150
meals were served to the underprivileged in Matagorda County.
Helping Hands
Retired members of our Mission Committee have offered their
help to the widows and elderly of our church. Often there
are things around the house that they are simply unable to
manage. These men change light bulbs, fix drippy faucets,
and other small odd jobs and home repairs that would otherwise
be left undone. They also offer to drive patients to doctor’s
appointments.
Congregational Care Team
This newly organized ministry under the leadership of Sally Arnold is reaching out to our shut in and home bound members to remind them that they are not forgotten but still treasured members of our family of faith. Through increased visits and the growth of personal relationships God's love is being spread in a powerful way and bridges are being reconstructed.
