CHILDREN IN WORSHIP
“Let the children come unto Me;
do not stop them;
for it is to such as these
that the Kingdom of God belongs.”
(Mark 10:14)
WE ARE GLAD YOU
AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE HERE!
Visit our nursery to see this ministry in action. In addition to our adult caregivers, you’ll see youth volunteers who took it upon themselves to complete a Red Cross course in childcare, and then asked to serve in this ministry.
Childcare is provided for infants through 4-year olds during each worship service and Sunday school hour, and for infants through fifth graders for all meetings and special events. To schedule childcare for an event of ministry you are planning, please contact Sandy Boyer (church secretary) when you call to place your event on the church calendar.
1. The Minister is not
bothered by restless children. The Pastor is glad to have
them and you in Worship.
2. It is an unreal expectation to expect anyone, especially
children, to be absolutely quiet and still. Simply help
them be as quiet as possible. Whisper to them.
3. Help your children feel a part of worship. Give them a Children’s Bulletin. Let them draw on the Bulletins.
4. Encourage your children to participate in Children’s
Moment. You may come down with your children, if that will
help them.
5. Call their attention to what is taking place in worship.
Show them in the Bulletin where to find hymns, scripture
readings, etc.
6. Help your children to participate in the Service - standing
with the Congregation, praying the prayers, etc.
7. Children do follow the example set for them. What are
you doing?
8. Help your children memorize the common responses, such
as the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostles’ Creed, etc.
9. Discuss the Worship Service on the way home from church.
You may be surprised by what the children remember.
10. If your children become restless, just hold them in
your lap or cuddle with them for a while. It is a wonderful
way to help them calm down.
11. There is no need to feel embarrassed if your children
act up. If they do no calm down, simply take them out of
the Sanctuary and talk to them. If they are restless, we
have a Nursery. The Service is on speaker in the Nursery.
12. If your children cry when left in the Nursery, do not
be alarmed. It is normal for children to be upset when their
parents first leave them. Your children will quiet down
faster if parents simply leave.
13. Children are entitled to pastoral care and instruction of the Church, and to participation in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. Please explain to your children the meaning of Communion.
14. The Minister is available to talk with your children
about the Sanctuary, the Worship Service, Communion, etc.
Simply visit with the Minister about such concerns.
